No. 235 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Michael Casas of Harlingen participated in the 2017 Pan-American Youth Championships chess tournament, held June 30 through July 7 in San José, Costa Rica; and WHEREAS, Mr. Casas faced off against other top players from countries around the world and ranked third among his fellow American challengers; and WHEREAS, This accomplished young Texan is a student at Sam Houston Elementary School, where he is a member of the chess team, and he was named the cochampion of his age division at the Texas Chess Association 2017 South Texas State Scholastic Championships; and WHEREAS, Michael Casas has demonstrated the skill and acuity necessary to compete on an international stage, and in so doing, he has brought great pride to his family, his community, and the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Michael Casas for his participation in the 2017 Pan-American Youth Championships chess tournament and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Michael Casas as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
