R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed
cause for celebration, and Laura Rogers Burks of Houston is
celebrating this momentous milestone in her life on September 29,
2017, to the delight of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Born in Palestine in 1917, Mrs. Burks is the
daughter of Pearl Martin and Robert Hogan Sr.; today, she is the
cherished matriarch of a very large family that includes 6
children, 19 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 12
great-great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of a historic century, Mrs. Burks
has witnessed a panorama of change; the wisdom and experience that
she has gained are a remarkable resource, and by meeting life's
challenges with resilience, optimism, and determination, she has
won the admiration and affection of innumerable people; and
WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family and loyal friends,
Laura Burks has long been a source of joy to all who share in the
richness of her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Laura Rogers
Burks on the occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her
sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Burks as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
