SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 122
WHEREAS, Dr. J. Kie Bowman has made a positive and lasting
difference in the Austin community during his 20 years of
dedicated service as the senior pastor of Hyde Park Baptist
Church; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Bowman assumed the pulpit of Hyde Park Baptist
in 1997, and in 2007 he oversaw the establishment of a second
campus, The Quarries Church; over the years, he has also held a
number of leadership roles in his denomination at the state and
national levels; previously a member of the executive committee
of the Southern Baptist Convention, he currently serves as chair
of the executive board of the Southern Baptists of Texas
Convention and as a trustee for Southwestern Baptist Theological
Seminary; locally, he has organized citywide prayer meetings and
retreats as part of an interdenominational team of pastors in
Austin, and he has faithfully served the House of Representatives
as chaplain on numerous occasions since the 79th Texas
Legislature in 1999; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Bowman is much in demand as a preacher for
state evangelism conferences, national conventions, and other
events, and he has delivered keynote messages at international
conferences in Ireland, Paraguay, and Switzerland; moreover, he
has presented a paper on American evangelicalism at the
University of Oxford in England; he is the author of three books
on the New Testament and has contributed to more than a dozen
other works; a graduate of the University of the Cumberlands,
Dr. Bowman holds both master of divinity and doctor of ministry
degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Bowman is blessed with
the support and encouragement of his wife, Tina, and their
children, Amanda, Laura, and Joseph; and
WHEREAS, This inspiring clergyman has led his flock with
conviction and compassion, and he has earned the respect and
admiration of his congregants as well as members of the greater
community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dr. J. Kie Bowman
for his 20 years of dedicated service as senior pastor of Hyde
Park Baptist Church in Austin and extend to him sincere best
wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
Dr. Bowman as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
