                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 124
 In Memory
 of
 John William Foster
 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew
 to a close with the passing of John William Foster of Texarkana on
 July 26, 2017, at the age of 95; and
 WHEREAS, The son of John and Gertie Foster, "Jake" Foster
 was born on July 29, 1921, in Blevins, Arkansas, where he
 graduated from high school; with the onset of World War II, he
 joined the United States Marines and proudly served his country
 as a machine gunner in Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Tinian, and Saipan,
 earning a Purple Heart for his valorous service; he went on to
 enjoy a rewarding career with Midwest Dairy in Bowie County that
 spanned three decades, and he later worked as an assistant
 building superintendent for the First Baptist Church; and
 WHEREAS, A man of deep faith, Mr. Foster was ordained as a
 deacon in 1966 and was a congregant of First Baptist Church
 Texarkana; he further gave of his time and talents as a member of
 the Evening Kiwanis Club, and he found fulfillment in working in
 his yard, gardening, and assisting loved ones with building
 projects; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Foster was a devoted husband to his wife,
 Janette, and over the course of their more than seven decades
 together, the couple were blessed with a fine family that
 included 2 daughters, Sherry and Debbie, a son-in-law, Blaine,
 and 5 grandchildren, Steve, Mike, Brian, Staci, and Micah, as
 well as 10 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, 4
 step-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren, and 6
 step-great-great-grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Jake Foster sought out ways
 to help others, and although he will be deeply missed, he leaves
 behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that will continue to
 inspire all those who had the good fortune to know him; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
 of John William Foster and extend heartfelt sympathy to his
 family and many friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do
 so in memory of Jake Foster.
