                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 15
 WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed
 cause for celebration, and Virginia Elizabeth Toole Reed of Paris
 marked this momentous milestone in the company of family and
 friends on May 21, 2017; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Lovington, New Mexico, in 1917, the former
 Virginia Toole moved to the Lone Star State as a child; she
 graduated from Texas Technological College and began her career
 teaching English literature; and
 WHEREAS, She married Barrett "Buster" Reed, and they
 became the parents of two daughters; while raising her children
 in Lamesa, Mrs. Reed was active in many community activities, and
 she both volunteered and worked for two Girl Scout councils; she
 eventually resumed her career in education in Pecos, where she
 taught English to classes composed primarily of Spanish-speaking
 students; and
 WHEREAS, Following her retirement in 1982, Mrs. Reed
 settled in Paris and worked as a registered educational
 diagnostician and professional counselor; she also gave
 generously of her time and talents to numerous organizations,
 among them the McCuistion Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, the
 Paris Community Theatre, and Friends of the Paris Public Library;
 uniting with other volunteers, she helped found the city's
 chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and she was a member of the Paris
 Noon Study Club, the Lamar-Delta Retired Teachers and School
 Employees Association, the Girl Scout Council of Red River
 Valley, and Delta Kappa Gamma; and
 WHEREAS, Virginia Reed is a source of tremendous
 inspiration, and in sharing the experience gained through a
 century of life well lived, she bestows a precious gift of wisdom
 that benefits all who are fortunate enough to know her; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Virginia
 Elizabeth Toole Reed on her 100th birthday and extend to her
 sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 Mrs. Reed as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
