SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 38 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Salado Masonic Lodge, which celebrated 150 years of fraternity and service on June 12, 2017, at the historic Stagecoach Inn; and WHEREAS, Texas Freemasons are highly respected leaders in their communities who commit their time and energy to civic and charitable endeavors, and the members of Lodge 296 in Salado have diligently upheld the longstanding moral tenets of the fraternal organization; and WHEREAS, The lodge has a proud history in Salado, as many of its founding members served as the first leaders in the community; the local Masons also maintain a historic connection to the newly renovated Stagecoach Inn, a treasured landmark that first opened in 1860 as the Salado Hotel; Sam Houston, an early Freemason, delivered a renowned speech from the balcony of the original hotel, and fittingly, the lodge hosted its sesquicentennial celebration in the new inn's Sam Houston banquet room; and WHEREAS, The Freemasons of Texas have worked alongside schools, churches, local governments, and community organizations to help the Lone Star State thrive, and the members of the Salado Masonic Lodge can indeed take pride in their long history of service; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend all associated with Salado Masonic Lodge 296 for upholding the proud mission of the Texas Freemasons and extend to them congratulations on the lodge's 150th anniversary; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the lodge as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
