 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to requiring certain public school campuses to donate and
 distribute food to students.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Section 33.907, Education Code, is amended by
 adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows:
 (b-1)  Notwithstanding Subsection (b), a school district or
 open-enrollment charter school shall require a campus in which 50
 percent or more of the students attending the campus are eligible
 for enrollment in the national school lunch program of free or
 reduced-price lunches to donate food to a nonprofit organization to
 be distributed to students at the campus as provided by this
 section.
 SECTION 2.  This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020
 school year.
 SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
