A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the definition of license plate.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 503.001, Transportation Code, is amended
by adding Subdivision (9-a) to read as follows:
(9-a) "License plate" means any type of regular or
temporary plate or tag, including replacement license plates and
license plates with numbers or a combination of letters and
numbers, made of metal, paper, or another material, that is issued:
(A) by the department or a person authorized by
the department to issue the plates; and
(B) for the purpose of authorizing a vehicle to
operate on a highway or another purpose authorized by law.
SECTION 2. Section 504.001, Transportation Code, is amended
by adding Subdivision (2-a) to read as follows:
(2-a) "License plate" has the meaning assigned by
Section 503.001.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
