H.R. No. 677
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Austin Spurs brought their 2018 season to a
triumphant close by capturing the NBA G League championship; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of head coach Blake Ahearn, the
Spurs claimed the Western Conference Finals crown to earn a berth in
the championship series against the Eastern Conference winner, the
Raptors 905; and
WHEREAS, Austin opened the best-of-three championship
showdown on April 8 with a 105-93 home win over the Raptors at the
H-E-B Center at Cedar Park; two days later, the teams took the floor
at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, and the Spurs got off
to a fast start, building a 46-38 halftime lead; the Raptors pulled
to within one point in the third quarter, but Austin's 26-10 run
late in the game sealed the victory and earned the team its second
championship in franchise history; and
WHEREAS, The Spurs were led by Nick Johnson, who came off the
bench in Game 2 to tally 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists and was
named the series Most Valuable Player; Jeff Ledbetter, Jaron
Blossomgame, Olivier Hanlan, and Darrun Hilliard also scored in
double digits for Austin in the deciding contest; additionally,
Amida Brimah was named to the NBA G League All-Defensive Team, and
Mr. Blossomgame received All-NBA G League third-team honors; and
WHEREAS, Demonstrating remarkable skill and determination,
the Austin Spurs thrilled their fans by earning the mantle of league
champions, and their success has furthered the Lone Star State's
legacy of basketball excellence; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Austin Spurs on winning the
2018 NBA G League championship and extend to the team's players,
coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
