                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD     Austin, Texas       FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION             April 18, 2021       TO: Honorable Nicole Collier, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence     FROM: Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board      IN RE: HB1750 by Crockett (Relating to the use of force or deadly force in defense of a person.), As Introduced     No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend the Penal Code related to acquittals based on self-defense. The bill would prohibit consideration of a mistake of fact defense when a judge or jury decides whether a defendant was not otherwise engaged in criminal activity.Based on information provided by the Office of Court Administration, no significant fiscal impact to the state court system is anticipated as a result from implementing the provisions of the bill.  Local Government ImpactThe Texas Association of Counties does not anticipate a significant fiscal impact to counties.
