The bill would amend the Local Government Code to provide for illness or injury leave of absence for county and municipal firefighters and police officers  Local Government ImpactAccording to the Texas Association of Counties, a significant fiscal impact to counties that have fire departments is anticipated. The impact would be associated with extending salary continuation for a line of duty injury or illness and with having other staff cover essential functions of employees on light duty.
