A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to a certification election to recognize a police officers
association as the bargaining agent for certain police officers.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 142.054, Local Government Code, is
amended by adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
(e) Notwithstanding a procedure agreed to by the parties
under this section, a police officers association may not be
recognized as the association to represent a majority of the
covered police officers unless a majority of covered officers
voting at the election vote in favor of the recognition.
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
to a certification election ordered under Section 142.053(a)(3),
Local Government Code, on or after the effective date of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
