The bill would amend the Education Code to broaden the categories of persons for whom educational institutions are eligible to receive certain matching grants made from the General Revenue-Dedicated Account No. 5161 Governor's University Research Initiative.The bill would establish a governor's university research initiative advisory board to assist the Office of the Governor with the review and evaluation of applications for funding or grant proposals under the program.According to the Office of the Governor, the Comptroller of Public Accounts, and the Higher Education Coordinating Board, any additional work resulting from the passage of the bill could be reasonably absorbed within current resources.  Local Government ImpactNo significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
