 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the requirement for certain persons to provide
 information to a peace officer; creating a criminal offense.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Article 2.13, Code of Criminal Procedure is
 amended by adding Subsection (g) to read as follows:
 (g)  If an officer has lawfully arrested or detained a
 person, or has good cause to believe that a person is a witness to a
 criminal offense, the officer may request that the person provide
 the officer with the person's name, residence address, and date of
 birth, and the person may not refuse to provide the requested
 information to the officer. A person who refuses to give to an
 officer information requested under this subsection commits an
 offense under Section 38.02, Penal Code. Each law enforcement
 agency shall adopt a written policy regarding the collection of
 information under this subsection.
 SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
