By: Guillen, et al. H.B. No. 4555 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT relating to an application for a place on a ballot filed by a person convicted of a felony. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 141.031, Election Code, is amended by adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: (a-1) A person who has been convicted of a felony shall include in the application proof that the person is eligible for public office under Section 141.001(a)(4). SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies to an application for a place on the ballot filed on or after the effective date of this Act. An application for a place on the ballot filed before the effective date of this Act is covered by the law in effect on the date the application was filed, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
