H.R. No. 1667
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lexi Harrel and Shayna Meek of Tivy High School in
Kerrville achieved great distinction by winning bronze medals at
the 2021 University Interscholastic League Tennis State
Tournament; and
WHEREAS, Taking the court in San Antonio on May 20 along with
the other top 5A doubles teams in Texas, these talented
student-athletes opened the tournament by defeating Abilene Wylie
7-6, 6-4; Ms. Harrel and Ms. Meek then matched up against the team
from Highland Park High School in the semifinals, where they gave
their all but ultimately fell short, finishing as bronze medal
recipients; and
WHEREAS, Under the able guidance of coaches Dave Johnson and
Kirk Kniffen, the duo's fine showing at the state tournament capped
off a memorable season that included an exceptional performance at
the Region IV tournament, where they lost just one set en route to
capturing the championship as fourth-seeded underdogs; and
WHEREAS, By medaling at the state's premier showcase for high
school tennis athletes, Lexi Harrel and Shayna Meek have ably
represented their school, and they will cherish their memories of
this outstanding accomplishment for years to come; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Lexi Harrel and Shayna Meek on
earning bronze medals in the 5A girls' doubles event at the 2021 UIL
Tennis State Tournament and extend to them sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Harrel and Ms. Meek as an expression of high
regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
