H.R. No. 642 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed community leader drew to a close with the passing of former Benbrook City Council member Ronald Joseph Sauma on August 5, 2020, at the age of 83; and WHEREAS, A native of Brooklyn, New York, Ron Sauma was born on August 2, 1937, to Rudolpho and Marguerite Sauma; he served his country proudly as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean War, and he was stationed aboard the destroyer USS Johnston as a radarman; after returning stateside, he wed the love of his life, Marie Moore, in 1962, beginning a marriage that would span nearly six decades; and WHEREAS, Mr. Sauma worked as a brewery warehouse supervisor for the Miller Brewing Company, beginning his career in New York before relocating to Texas; following his retirement after 40 years with the company, he became an active and engaged member of the Benbrook community and enjoyed volunteering for such groups as 4PAWS, the Benbrook Lions Club, and the Benbrook Citizens on Patrol, as well as at the local Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic and at the Cardiac Rehab Center at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth; he was a recipient of the President's Volunteer Service Award in recognition of his more than 12,000 hours of volunteer work; and WHEREAS, From 2001 to 2019, Mr. Sauma greatly benefited his fellow citizens as the Place 7 representative on the Benbrook City Council; over the course of his tenure, Benbrook was honored with multiple Voice of the People awards, which are given to communities with the highest rated municipal services in the nation; and WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Sauma treasured his family; he was the devoted father of two children, Donna and George, and he was further blessed with two grandchildren, Anthony and Madelyn, who were his pride and joy; when not at work, he enjoyed taking cruises to the Caribbean with his wife, watching westerns, trying his luck at casinos, and cheering on his granddaughter at her dance competitions; and WHEREAS, Ron Sauma was a pillar of his community, a loving family man, and a dear friend to many, and the generosity and integrity with which he lived his life will forever inspire all who had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Ronald Joseph Sauma and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Marie Sauma; to his children, Donna Sauma and her husband, Brian, and George Sauma; to his grandchildren, Anthony Sauma and Madelyn Hayden; to his sister, Darlene Kalil; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ron Sauma.
