                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD     Austin, Texas       FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION             April 1, 2021       TO: Honorable Brandon Creighton, Chair, Senate Committee on Higher Education     FROM: Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board      IN RE: SB1251 by Miles (relating to authorizing certain joint graduate degree programs between The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted     No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would allow The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, with the proper approval by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and The University of Texas Board of Regents, to jointly prescribe courses and jointly conduct graduate programs with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston related to the fields of population and public health. Based on analysis of agency responses, it is assumed that the costs associated with the bill's provisions could be absorbed using existing resources.While the provisions of the bill would not impact total formula funding for the 2022-23 biennium, the allowance for courses in public health at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center could impact formula funding distributions within the Instruction and Operations formula in future biennia.
