 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to referenda on county property matters in certain
 counties.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Section 291.007, Local Government Code, is
 amended to read as follows:
 Sec. 291.007.  NONBINDING REFERENDUM ON COUNTY PROPERTY
 MATTER IN CERTAIN COUNTIES. (a)  This section applies only to a
 county with a population of:
 (1)  less than 40,000; or
 (2)  more than 300,000 and in which the most populous
 military base in this state is wholly or partly located.
 (b)  The commissioners court of a county [with a population
 of less than 40,000] may order a nonbinding referendum in the county
 on any matter affecting county property. The referendum must be
 held on an authorized uniform election date as provided by Chapter
 41, Election Code.
 SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
