The bill would amend the Local Government Code to require an election to approve a reduction or reallocation of funding or resources for certain municipal or county law enforcement agencies. Local Government ImpactCameron County anticipates a cost of $653,000 per election if a budget were adopted that triggered an election required by the bill. According to Travis County, the bill would have a negative impact which cannot be calculated as it could have a multi-year impact on the tax rate.According to Bexar County, the cost of a special election to approve a reduction in funding for local law enforcement could be as high as $1.4 million. Additionally, the county could see a potential loss of $2,577,475 if affected by the section of the bill that would freeze the property tax rate at the no-new-revenue rate.
