SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 211 In Memory of Wilson Dickson WHEREAS, The passing of Wilson M. Dickson of Kilgore on February 7, 2021, at the age of 101, concluded a long and rewarding life distinguished by meaningful accomplishments and courageous service to his country; and WHEREAS, Born in the Danville community on November 20, 1919, Wilson Dickson was the son of Starr and Maria Dickson; he grew up with the companionship of a brother, Edward, and two sisters, Kathryn and Louise, and he attended school in Longview; he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business from Stephen F. Austin State University and enlisted in the United States Navy, receiving training at Columbia University in New York City and at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York; as a member of the navy, he took part in the demolition of Fort Drum, a Japanese-held fortress that guarded Manila Bay in the Philippines; and WHEREAS, Mr. Dickson and his wife, the former Barbara Jo Damuth, shared a remarkable 71 years of marriage and raised four children, Mitchell, Deborah, Becky, and Barbara Ann; with the passing years, his family further grew to include 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy; and WHEREAS, An entrepreneur, Mr. Dickson owned Dickson Construction in Kilgore; he still actively worked on small projects up to the age of 100, and his hobbies included hunting, studying family genealogy, reading books on World War II, and playing 42; and WHEREAS, Although he is greatly missed, Wilson Dickson has left his family and friends with many cherished memories, and he will forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Wilson M. Dickson and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Barbara Dickson; to his sisters, Kathryn Dean and Louise Sims; to his children, Mitch Dickson and his wife, Dora, Deborah Dickson, Becky Tupman and her husband, Jimmy, and Barbara Watkins and her husband, Jerry; to his 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Wilson Dickson.
