SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 503 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Judy Moore, who has been named the 2021 Teacher Advocate of the Year by the Texas Public Charter Schools Association; and WHEREAS, Judy Moore is a middle school teacher at Austin Achieve Public Schools; in addition to her exemplary work in the classroom, she is known for her efforts to help other teachers become involved in Texas public education policy; and WHEREAS, She serves as a coach and mentor to other educators at the Teacher Advocacy Leadership Institute and works with them in their efforts to share their experiences and priorities with local and state lawmakers; she recently organized a virtual teachers rally that facilitated dialogue among educators across the state; and WHEREAS, She has been featured in media outlets such as Reform Austin to explain the ways that she and other teachers adapted to the need for virtual instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic; she also helped to arrange a virtual meeting for her students to meet with a state lawmaker; and WHEREAS, As a first-generation college graduate, she appreciates the power of public education in unlocking students' potential, and she has worked tirelessly in support of our state's students and educators; it is truly fitting that she receive special recognition for her outstanding work and her many contributions to public education in Texas; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, hereby commend Judy Moore on her commitment to excellence in education and extend congratulations to her on being named the 2021 Teacher Advocate of the Year; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
