No. 137 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the passing of Thomas Rice Winkelvoss of Mabank on August 19, 2021, at the age of 74; and WHEREAS, The son of William and Jean Winkelvoss, Tom Winkelvoss was born on November 9, 1946; after graduating from Irving High School, he attended North Texas State University; and WHEREAS, Mr. Winkelvoss enjoyed a long and rewarding career with the Dallas Fire Department, and in the course of his tenure, he was honored with the Medal of Valor for the critical role he played in rescuing a baby from a burning apartment; he ultimately retired at the rank of captain after 32 years of dedicated service; subsequently, he focused his energies on his business, Wink & Sons, which provides fencing and custom railing fabrication services to area residents; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Winkelvoss benefited from the love and support of his wife, Joan, with whom he shared a fulfilling marriage that spanned more than five decades before her passing in 2017; he took great pride in his children, Kurt, Matt, and Kathy, and through the years, he had the pleasure of welcoming into his family six grandchildren, Luke, Ty, Lexi, Ashton, Kade, and Zach, and two great-grandchildren, Ramsey and Kimber; sustained by a deep faith, he was a valued congregant of Four Mile Lutheran Church; and WHEREAS, Tom Winkelvoss was a man of great compassion who found joy and inspiration in helping others, and he leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Thomas Rice Winkelvoss and extend sincere sympathy to his loved ones; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Tom Winkelvoss.
