 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Presbyterian Day School in Victoria is marking the
 75th anniversary of its founding during its homecoming celebration
 on October 24, 2021; and
 WHEREAS, One of the state's oldest accredited private day
 schools, Presbyterian Day School welcomed its first 48 students on
 September 9, 1946; it initially offered one first-grade class and
 two preschool classes in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian
 Church in downtown Victoria, and it received accreditation the
 following year; and
 WHEREAS, Founding principal and first-grade teacher Lucy
 Mackrell ably led the school until 1957, and she introduced such
 popular traditions as the formal Silver Tea fundraiser and the
 playful May Fete; until her passing in 1995, she continued to
 support the school's mission, even returning in an interim capacity
 on occasion; and
 WHEREAS, The school moved to its current Navarro Street
 location in 1966; for a time, it offered instruction through the
 fourth grade, but it came to focus on children from 18 months
 through kindergarten; it is operated by First Presbyterian Church
 of Victoria, and while not a parochial school, it provides students
 with a functional understanding of religious principles; cherished
 traditions have evolved, and in addition to the Silver Coffee & Tea
 luncheon and Spring Festival, the school's many annual events now
 include an ice cream social, Halloween parade, Thanksgiving feast,
 Christmas program, school-wide picnic, and Splash Day; and
 WHEREAS, For seven and a half decades, Presbyterian Day
 School has effectively addressed the educational needs of Victoria
 families, offering a nurturing environment to prepare young
 children for continued academic success; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Presbyterian
 Day School on its 75th anniversary and extend to all those
 associated with the school sincere best wishes for the future; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
