 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The 80th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly
 cause for celebration, and Mable L. Armstrong reached that
 significant milestone in her life on August 26, 2021; and
 WHEREAS, Mable Armstrong was born in Sulphur Springs to
 Earlene Tilman and James Hodge in 1941, and she grew up in the Queen
 City neighborhood of South Dallas; after graduating from Lincoln
 High School in 1958, she went to work as a seamstress, eventually
 pursuing her profession with several downtown Dallas department
 stores; later in life, she started her own business, Artistic
 Floral and Gift Designs, one of the first minority-owned retail
 shops in West Dallas; and
 WHEREAS, Joined in matrimony to Bishop Dr. James
 Armstrong Sr., Mrs. Armstrong has raised a family in West Dallas
 while devoting much of her time and energy to her community; in the
 mid-1970s, she started serving meals to kids and families in the
 local housing projects, and she went on to become a certified drug
 counselor, a regular volunteer with the Salvation Army, and a
 volunteer hospital chaplain; she also established "the House That
 Love Built," a ministry for children; and
 WHEREAS, In 1989, Mrs. Armstrong founded the Community Care
 Center of Dallas, which offers housing and other services to
 individuals recovering from addiction; it has also provided school
 supplies and Christmas gifts to thousands of children, as well as
 programs for senior citizens; and
 WHEREAS, In recognition of her many contributions, Dallas
 Christian College honored Mrs. Armstrong with its Lifetime
 Achievement Award; this dynamic woman continues to serve as
 executive director of the Community Care Center, as a board member
 of Love in Action International, and as the founding First Lady of
 Community Fellowship Church of Dallas; and
 WHEREAS, Respected and admired by all who are privileged to
 know her, Mable Armstrong may reflect with satisfaction on a
 lifetime of devotion to her family, her community, and her faith,
 and it is a pleasure to join with her many friends and loved ones in
 honoring her on this special occasion; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Mable L.
 Armstrong on her 80th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes
 for continued happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mrs. Armstrong as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
