R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Every year, Asia Times Square in Grand Prairie
invites the public to join together to celebrate the Lunar New Year
with an abundance of festivities; and
WHEREAS, Asia Times Square, a hub for shopping, business, and
culture for Grand Prairie's Asian American community, is one of the
largest Asian markets in Texas; the development serves as the venue
for a host of events, including its Mid-Autumn Festival, its Hong
Kong Market Place Music and Food Festival, and its Lunar New Year
celebration, which is now in its 15th year; and
WHEREAS, The Lunar New Year festival, which begins with the
first new moon of the lunar calendar, is one of the most important
religious and cultural events for people of Asian heritage; this
special holiday ushers in the spring season, when members of the
Asian community reflect on the past and make plans for the future,
and it is celebrated with a variety of vibrant traditions that are
intended to bring prosperity, good health, and happiness to oneself
and others; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its existence, Asia Times Square in Grand
Prairie has been a popular destination for area Texans, and events
such as its much-anticipated Lunar New Year festival are among the
many ways that the shopping complex contributes to the economic and
cultural richness of the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Asia Times Square in
Grand Prairie for its annual Lunar New Year celebration and extend
sincere best wishes to all those who are taking part in the
observance; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Asia Times Square in Grand Prairie as an expression of
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
