2021S0581-1 09/28/21 By: Hinojosa S.R. No. 43 SENATE RESOLUTION WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Jesusa F. Gomez, who died August 19, 2021, at the age of 100; and WHEREAS, This treasured citizen was born in Yorktown, Texas, on August 12, 1921; she lost her mother at the young age of six, and she helped her father to raise her younger siblings; and WHEREAS, Jesusa shared a life of devotion with her husband, the late Valdemar Gomez; she raised their five children by loving example, and her 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren enriched her life immeasurably; and WHEREAS, Jesusa was admired by friends and loved ones for her intelligence and her many creative and artistic skills; she was an accomplished seamstress who made beautiful gowns for weddings and formal occasions, and she owned Jessie's Flower Shop for many years; she was also known as an amazing cook, and her family most especially enjoyed her capirotada, tamales, empanadas, and pan de polvo; and WHEREAS, An esteemed member of the community, Jesusa was politically active and was always ready to help a person in need; in 2003, she and Mr. Gomez were honored as the San Juan Man and Woman of the Year; and WHEREAS, Jesusa Gomez was a cherished matriarch and a woman of grace and charm; she was beloved by many, and she leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by all who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Jesusa F. Gomez; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jesusa Gomez.
