                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD     Austin, Texas       FISCAL NOTE, 88TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION             April 9, 2023       TO: Honorable Abel Herrero, Chair, House Committee on Corrections     FROM: Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board      IN RE: HB1743 by Leach (Relating to a memorandum of understanding between the Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to assess the eligibility of certain inmates for supplemental nutrition assistance program benefits on discharge or release from confinement.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted     No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would require the Health and Human Services Commission, in collaboration with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, to accept and process supplemental nutrition assistance program applications for inmates for the purposes of providing program benefits upon release. It is assumed that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed using existing resources.
