The bill would require the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to establish a mobile stroke unit grant program to improve health care outcomes for individuals who suffer a stroke and increase the availability of mobile stroke units in this state. It is assumed that the cost to administer the grant program could be absorbed within current resources. The cost to provide grants for mobile stroke units cannot be determined due to uncertainty in the preferred scale of the program. The cost for grants would depend on a variety of factors including the preferred number of stroke facilities that would receive grants and the average size of the grant.
