A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to certain employment restrictions for former county or
municipal officers or employees.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Chapter 171, Local Government Code, is amended
by adding Section 171.008 to read as follows:
Sec. 171.008. CERTAIN EMPLOYMENT FOR FORMER COUNTY OR
MUNICIPAL OFFICER OR EMPLOYEE RESTRICTED. A former county or
municipal officer or employee who during the period of county or
municipal service or employment participated on behalf of the
county or municipality in a procurement or contract negotiation
involving a person may not accept employment from that person
before the second anniversary of the date the contract is signed or
the procurement is terminated or withdrawn.
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
to a county or municipal officer or employee whose service or
employment with a county or municipality ceases on or after the
effective date of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
