H.B. 4615 seeks to preserve the sensitive information of military service members by adding a service member's Department of Defense identification number to this list of confidential information.   H.B. 4615 amends current law relating to the confidentiality of certain information concerning service members of the state military forces.   RULEMAKING AUTHORITY   This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.   SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS   SECTION 1. Amends Section 437.232(a), Government Code, to provide that "military personnel information" includes a service member's Department of Defense identification number.   SECTION 2. Makes application of this Act prospective.    SECTION 3. Effective date: September 1, 2023.

AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

Currently, certain information relating to a military service member's addresses, service, pay, and medical history is considered confidential and exempted from disclosure under state public information law. H.B. 4615 seeks to preserve the sensitive information of military service members by adding a service member's Department of Defense identification number to this list of confidential information.

 

H.B. 4615 amends current law relating to the confidentiality of certain information concerning service members of the state military forces.

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1. Amends Section 437.232(a), Government Code, to provide that "military personnel information" includes a service member's Department of Defense identification number.
