The bill would require the Texas Historical Commission (THC) to cooperate with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to designate, interpret, and market a portion of State Highway 356 as a Texas historic highway. The bill would authorize the agencies to pursue federal funds to supplement revenue available for those purposes. The bill would stipulate that TxDOT is not required to design, construct, or erect a highway marker unless a grant or donation of funds is made to TxDOT to cover the costs.Based on the information provided by THC and TxDOT, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agencies' existing resources.
