No. 101 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The San Antonio Fútbol Club brought its 2022 season to a triumphant close by winning the United Soccer League Championship title; and WHEREAS, San Antonio FC began its march to the league cup with a historic regular season in which the team tied the league record for wins, finished second all-time in points with 77, and defeated Major League Soccer club Austin FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup; following an opening round bye, the squad began its postseason run with a decisive 3-0 victory over the Oakland Roots Soccer Club; in the Western Conference Final, San Antonio defeated Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC 2-0 to earn its inaugural trip to the USL Championship Final; and WHEREAS, Competing in front of a sold-out crowd on November 13 at Toyota Field in the Alamo City, San Antonio took the pitch against Louisville City FC; SAFC snapped a scoreless deadlock with a goal in stoppage time of the first half, converting a penalty shot to take a 1-0 lead; after intermission, San Antonio scored in both the 64th and 70th minutes; Louisville responded with a goal, but San Antonio's stifling defense held the opposing team at bay to seal a 3-1 victory; with the triumph, SAFC hoisted the championship trophy for the first time in franchise history and closed with a stellar record of 24 wins, 5 losses, and 5 ties; and WHEREAS, Most Valuable Player Santiago Patiño led San Antonio FC with two goals, and USL Championship Goalkeeper of the Year Jordan Farr tallied four saves; over the course of its unforgettable season, the team also received valuable contributions from the other members of the roster: Grant Makela, Carter Manley, Mitchell Taintor, Fabien Garcia, Jordy Delem, Victor "PC" Giro, Saad Abdul-Salaam, Deshane Beckford, David Loera, Justin Dhillon, Samuel Adeniran, Jordan Ayimbila, Elliot Collier, Cristian Parano, Ignacio Bailone, Shannon Gomez, Mohammed Abu, Jack Lynn, Connor Maloney, Ates Diouf, Jasser Khmiri, Henrik Sakshaug, Roman Holt, Kai Louviere, Kibukila Mbula, and Jude Bosshardt; the players were ably guided by head coach Alen Marcina and assistant coaches Dario Pot, Tim Chestney, Juan Lamadrid, and Oscar Munoz, and they further benefited from the support of athletic trainer Jesse Lowrance, high performance coordinator Sean Arters, and equipment manager Rashad Moore; and WHEREAS, San Antonio FC's title represents the culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering commitment to excellence, and the team is a source of great pride to the local community and to the entire Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the San Antonio Fútbol Club on winning the 2022 USL Championship title and extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
