H.R. No. 122 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Galveston native Mike Evans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers furthered his stature as one of the National Football League's top pass catchers by recording his ninth consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season in 2022-2023; and WHEREAS, In a matchup against the Carolina Panthers on January 1, 2023, Mr. Evans extended his streak in dramatic fashion, hauling in a 63-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady to spark the Bucs to a 30-24 win that clinched the NFC South Division title; Mr. Evans holds the league record for the most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to start a career, and he is now in a second-place tie for the longest streak of 1K campaigns among all NFL receivers; and WHEREAS, Mr. Evans first gained attention at Ball High School in Galveston, where he played football only as a senior; he hauled in 25 passes for 648 yards and 7 touchdowns that year to earn All-Region and Second-Team All-District honors; at Texas A&M University, he garnered All-American and All-Southeastern Conference accolades; moreover, he set a school record as a redshirt sophomore with 1,394 receiving yards, and he recorded the two highest single-game receiving totals in program history; and WHEREAS, Mr. Evans was selected by Tampa Bay as the seventh pick in the 2014 NFL Draft; in addition to leading the NFL in receiving touchdowns each year since entering the league, he owns six of the Buccaneers' top 10 single-game receiving marks, and he has the most touchdown receptions, total TDs, receiving yards, receptions, and yards from scrimmage in franchise history; a four-time Pro Bowl selection, he helped lead the Bucs to the 2021 Super Bowl championship; and WHEREAS, Mike Evans has inspired football fans across the Lone Star State and beyond, and he may indeed take great pride in his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Mike Evans on recording his ninth consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season in the NFL and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Evans as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
