No. 1272 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Dr. Lloyd Verstuyft is retiring as superintendent of the Southwest Independent School District in June 2023, drawing to a close an outstanding tenure that has spanned nearly a decade and a half; and WHEREAS, A former student of Southwest High School, Dr. Verstuyft began his career with Southwest ISD as a teacher and coach, and he went on to serve as a middle school and high school principal; he later took on the role of executive director of administration and pupil service, and he subsequently became assistant superintendent for administration and human resources; over the years, he played an instrumental role in helping Southwest ISD campuses obtain state and national honors; since 2009, he has led the district as superintendent of schools, and his guidance has benefited thousands of students across 11 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 3 high schools; and WHEREAS, Among his many achievements, Dr. Verstuyft received the 2019 Education Service Center Region 20 Superintendent of the Year award from the Texas Association of School Boards; he has served as a board member for the San Antonio Education Partnership program and as co-chair of San Antonio's Diplomas Project, and he has been involved with the P16 Plus Executive Committee for Greater San Antonio as well as the steering committee for the Bexar County Go Public Campaign; and WHEREAS, Dr. Verstuyft holds a bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio, a master's degree in educational administration from Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and a doctorate from Texas A&M University in College Station; and WHEREAS, Through his dedication, expertise, and commitment to excellence, Dr. Lloyd Verstuyft has helped many young Texans acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed, and his contributions will be remembered and appreciated for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Lloyd Verstuyft on his retirement as superintendent of Southwest ISD and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Verstuyft as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
