88R16042 TBO-D By: Canales H.R. No. 1344 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Texas Ranger Lieutenant Roland A. Villarreal Jr. is retiring from the Texas Department of Public Safety on March 31, 2023, drawing to a close an outstanding career with the agency that has spanned 28 years; and WHEREAS, Roland Villarreal joined DPS in 1995, and after graduating from the academy, he was stationed in Zapata as a Texas Highway Patrol officer; he was subsequently assigned as a criminal law enforcement trooper with the Narcotics Service in McAllen, and in 2000, he was elevated to the position of sergeant investigator, subsequently transferring to Corpus Christi; in 2009, he was promoted to lieutenant in the Narcotics Service and assigned to Eagle Pass; he later transferred to McAllen and Weslaco, where he oversaw a drug squad and a major gang unit; and WHEREAS, In September 2014, Lieutenant Villarreal was appointed as a Texas Ranger, and he served in Harlingen, Weslaco, and Edinburg before becoming a lieutenant with Texas Rangers Company E in El Paso and then Company D in Weslaco; his many responsibilities have included working as a crisis negotiator, investigating the 1960 cold case of Irene Garza, and leading the Company D Special Response Team; and WHEREAS, Roland Villarreal's dedication, expertise, and commitment to preserving the peace have greatly benefited the people of Texas and earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow officers, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks upon the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Texas Ranger Lieutenant Roland A. Villarreal Jr. on his retirement from the Texas Department of Public Safety and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Lieutenant Villarreal as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
