No. 1535 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Ruben Esquivel, an Austin-based muralist, canvas artist, and designer, has distinguished himself through his efforts to beautify his community and to promote justice and healing through art; and WHEREAS, Born in Austin to parents of Mexican, Spanish, and Native American descent, Mr. Esquivel was exposed to a variety of creative outlets while growing up, which influenced his pursuit of a multidisciplinary art career; he studied art history in Italy in 2013, before returning to Austin and completing an internship with a local art collective that led to a full-time position; since then, he has been involved in many aspects of the creative industry, including artist management, event production, mural painting, and graphic design, and he founded a management and consulting business for artists, East End Eclectic, in 2021; and WHEREAS, Mr. Esquivel has showcased his skills on works such as the Protectors of the Red Bluff mural, which is part of a 900-foot curation of art installations paying tribute to Austin's Govalle neighborhood; he also created a colorful piece called Seeds of Change for the Black Lives Matter Mural Campaign, and he was among the artists who painted individual murals for each of the 21 victims of the Robb Elementary School shooting as part of the Healing Uvalde mural project; he has collaborated with other artists on many occasions, including for the design of a floating installation on Lady Bird Lake with the title Common Waters, which was commissioned through the Butler Trail Arts and Culture Plan; and WHEREAS, Ruben Esquivel has created moving and powerful works of art that continue to enrich his community, and it is fitting to recognize this dynamic and gifted artist for his achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby honor Ruben Esquivel for his contributions to his community and to the art world and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Esquivel as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
