88R28756 CW-D By: Buckley H.R. No. 1557 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Teaching is a profession that calls for character, passion, and commitment, and Deborah W. Seigman demonstrated these qualities in abundance throughout her outstanding career that spanned nearly three decades; and WHEREAS, Deborah Seigman met her future husband, James Seigman, during their senior year at Liberty High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; although they attended different colleges, they never lost contact with each other; the couple exchanged wedding vows in 1958, and they went on to spend more than six happy decades together before Mr. Seigman's death in 2020; and WHEREAS, Mr. Seigman served as a lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Army Signal Corps, and over the course of some 27 years, he and Mrs. Seigman traveled the world together, all while raising their seven children, Lisa, Michele, James, William, Anne, Thomas, and Mary; and WHEREAS, Through the years, Mrs. Seigman enjoyed a successful career of her own; initially teaching at Killeen High School from 1975 until 1986, she went on to serve as an instructor at the Department of Defense Dependent School System at Yokota Air Base High School in Japan while her husband was stationed there; she returned to Killeen High in 1990, teaching at the campus until she retired in May 2004; retirement has afforded her the opportunity to spend more time with her family, which has grown to include 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Deborah Seigman made a lasting and positive difference in the lives of countless students both in Texas and overseas, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her exceptional record of service; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby commend Deborah W. Seigman for her exemplary career in education and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Seigman as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
