No. 1584 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Travis Bush was named head coach of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley football team on December 12, 2022; and WHEREAS, The first coach in program history, Mr. Bush is taking the helm of the Vaquero football team as it prepares to enter NCAA Division I competition; the school will sign recruiting classes in 2024 and 2025 and kick off its first game on August 30, 2025; and WHEREAS, A skilled athlete at the high school and college levels, Mr. Bush was an All-State quarterback at Gregory-Portland High School, where he was also a member of the golf and track and field teams; he went on to play wide receiver at Texas State University, and in 1999, he was the Bobcats' special teams captain; after graduating with a bachelor's degree, he went on to earn a master's degree from Texas Christian University; and WHEREAS, Coach Bush arrives in Edinburg with experience as a program builder; while serving as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2010 to 2012, he helped The University of Texas at San Antonio make its college football debut; he gained further expertise at the collegiate level as an assistant at TCU, Texas State, and the University of Houston, and he spent one year on the Buffalo Bills' coaching staff in the National Football League; in 2016, he became head coach and athletic director at Seguin High School, and he held the same titles at Canyon High School in New Braunfels beginning in 2021; and WHEREAS, The son of Ida Palacios and Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame inductee Bruce Bush, Travis Bush lived in South Texas for two years during his childhood, when his father coached at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School; in all his endeavors, he benefits from the support of his wife, Diana, and their two sons, Treyson and Tyler; and WHEREAS, Travis Bush will now put his experience and know-how to work in guiding The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros, and the university's students, alumni, and supporters are justifiably excited to welcome this proven leader to the Valley; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Travis Bush on his selection as head coach of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley football team and extend to him sincere best wishes for success in his new position; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Bush as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
