H.R. No. 1703 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Kelton Brown and Wade Bryant of Amarillo High School closed out an unforgettable year by winning the 5A boys' doubles championship at the 2023 University Interscholastic League Tennis State Tournament; and WHEREAS, Joining the other top high school competitors in Texas on April 25 and 26 in San Antonio, Mr. Brown and Mr. Bryant turned in an outstanding performance; following a straight-sets decision over a team from Friendswood High School in the quarterfinal round, the Amarillo duo prevailed in the semifinals against Mission Sharyland High School; rallying from an early deficit to win in three sets, 4-6, 7-6(8), 6-3, Mr. Brown and Mr. Bryant secured their spot in the finale; and WHEREAS, In the 5A state championship contest, the Amarillo High players faced off against the team from Frisco Centennial High School; demonstrating an unwavering resolve, Mr. Brown and Mr. Bryant triumphed 7-6(6), 6-3 to claim the coveted state title; with the victory, the duo finished their season with an overall record of 27 wins and 4 losses, and it also marked the second state doubles crown for Mr. Bryant; and WHEREAS, By excelling in the state's premier showcase for high school tennis players, Kelton Brown and Wade Bryant have ably represented their school and community, and they will cherish their memories of this outstanding accomplishment for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Kelton Brown and Wade Bryant of Amarillo High School on winning the 5A boys' doubles championship at the 2023 UIL Tennis State Tournament and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Brown and Mr. Bryant as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
