No. 1784 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Sara Long was installed as president of the Woman's Club of El Paso on May 3, 2023; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1894, the Woman's Club of El Paso is dedicated to the betterment of the community; it offers monthly opportunities for education and cultural enrichment, and members also work to preserve their historic clubhouse; and WHEREAS, Sara Long has been active in the club since 2008, and for the past eight years, she has benefited the group as program chair; from 2022 to 2023, she served with distinction as president-elect; and WHEREAS, A retired educator, Mrs. Long was born and raised in Denver City; she studied piano, voice, and acting as a girl and attended Sul Ross State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in music with a major in piano and a minor in voice; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Long enjoyed a 31-year career as a vocal music director for students of all levels in the Clint and Socorro Independent School Districts; over the years, she served as a vocal and choral music adjudicator for UIL competitions, and she was an accompanist for contest choirs as well; she was also a guest conductor for the Ysleta ISD Honor Choirs; for 14 Years, she was the director of music ministries at Vista Ysleta United Methodist Church; and WHEREAS, Today, Mrs. Long continues to teach piano and voice privately; in all her endeavors, she is supported by the love and encouragement of her husband of 50 years, Allen Long, a fellow retired educator; they have been blessed with three children, Allyson, Andrea, and AJ, as well as seven grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Sara Long has demonstrated a strong commitment to the mission of the Woman's Club of El Paso, and her new role will allow her to make even greater contributions to the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Sara Long on her installation as president of the Woman's Club of El Paso and extend to her sincere best wishes for a successful tenure in office; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Long as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
