88R30238 BK-D By: A. Johnson of Harris H.R. No. 1791 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Memorial Hermann Health System was named the 2023 winner of the Foster G. McGaw Prize for Excellence in Community Service by the American Hospital Association; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Baxter International Foundation, the AHA, and the AHA-affiliated Health Research & Educational Trust, the Foster G. McGaw Prize is awarded annually to a health care organization that has gone above and beyond to improve community health and health equity by forging innovative partnerships; Memorial Hermann Health System was honored with the award in April 2023 at the AHA Annual Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C., where it received $100,000 to go toward programs that will further these goals; and WHEREAS, With a network of 32,000 employees, 6,700 affiliated physicians, and over 265 care delivery sites, Memorial Hermann is one of the largest not-for-profit health systems in the state of Texas; Memorial Hermann has been hailed for its many community-focused initiatives, which include a free, 24-hour nurse health line that directs callers to the appropriate level of care, thereby helping them to avoid costly and unnecessary emergency room visits; it is also recognized for the positive impact it has had in the area through its physical fitness initiative StepHEALTHY, its health centers serving children who are uninsured or covered by Medicaid, its comprehensive community resource centers, and its mental health crisis clinics; and WHEREAS, Memorial Hermann Health System has distinguished itself not only as a premier health care provider but also as a considerable force for good in the Greater Houston area, and it has set a standard of excellence to which other hospital systems may aspire; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Memorial Hermann Health System on its receipt of the 2023 Foster G. McGaw Prize for Excellence in Community Service from the American Hospital Association and extend sincere best wishes to all those affiliated with this outstanding institution; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Memorial Hermann Health System as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
