H.R. No. 2337 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Buck Taylor has enjoyed an impressive acting career in television and film, and the occasion of his 85th birthday on May 13, 2023, provides a welcome opportunity to recognize him for his many achievements; and WHEREAS, Walter Clarence Taylor III was born in 1938 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, to Dub Taylor and Florence Gertrude Heffernan; he embarked on his acting career in the 1950s, and he became best known for playing gunsmith-turned-deputy Newly O'Brian from 1967 to 1975 in the Gunsmoke TV series; and WHEREAS, More recently, Mr. Taylor portrayed the character of Emmett Walsh on the popular TV show Yellowstone, and his other TV credits include appearances in Billy and the Bandit, Walker, Texas Ranger, Knots Landing, and Dallas; he has also distinguished himself in such films as the critically acclaimed Hell or High Water, Tombstone, The Road to Valhalla, and Truce, as well as many others; and WHEREAS, In 1981, Mr. Taylor was inducted into the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, and he was honored with the Trustee Award for his performance on Gunsmoke; he is the recipient of a number of Western Heritage Awards as well; he has also been recognized for his talent as an artist; he attended the Chouinard Art Institute, and he is known for his paintings of cowboys, Native Americans, horses, and other western scenes; and WHEREAS, A man of deep faith and patriotism, Mr. Taylor has further contributed through his work promoting awareness for organizations that support law enforcement and past and present military personnel; and WHEREAS, Buck Taylor has earned admiration for his accomplishments as an actor, as an artist, and as an advocate for law enforcement and the U.S. military, and it is a pleasure to recognize him for his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Buck Taylor on his 85th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Taylor as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
