No. 2365 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Dr. Blas Canedo-González of Lamar State College Port Arthur has distinguished himself as a dedicated music educator and skilled vocalist; and WHEREAS, Dr. Canedo-González currently serves as a full-time faculty member in the Commercial Music, Visual, and Performing Arts Department at LSCPA, and his many responsibilities include teaching and advising students as well as directing musical productions; a leader on campus, he is involved in numerous LSCPA organizations, such as the Faculty Senate, the Phi Theta Kappa student honor society, and several committees; he has also represented the college at recruiting events; and WHEREAS, In addition to his work with LSCPA, Dr. Canedo-González has performed in more than 50 large-scale musical productions for orchestra and vocalists, including international operas; in April 2023, he sang with the Houston Grand Opera in a performance for the city's homeless community; he holds a law degree from Universidad Externado in Bogota, Columbia, and a doctorate in musical arts, voice performance, voice pedagogy, and voice science from the University of Houston; moreover, he has completed a graduate certificate in vocology from Lamar University; and WHEREAS, Dr. Blas Canedo-González has made invaluable contributions to his field while earning the respect and admiration of his students and colleagues, and he is indeed deserving of special recognition for his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby commend Dr. Blas Canedo-González of Lamar State College Port Arthur for his achievements as a music educator and vocalist and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Canedo-González as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
