No. 290 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Former National Football League quarterbacks Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning thrilled fans with their outstanding play on the gridiron and have also distinguished themselves through their commitment to helping others; and WHEREAS, Archie Manning first gained acclaim at the University of Mississippi, where he set numerous school records, many of which would later be broken by his son, Eli; he went on to play 13 seasons in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints, Houston Oilers, and Minnesota Vikings; he and his wife, Olivia Manning, are the founders of the Manning Family Fund, which supports the vital work of the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and WHEREAS, Peyton Manning, Archie and Olivia's second son, became one of the most decorated quarterbacks in the history of the NFL; drafted first overall in the 1998 draft out of the University of Tennessee, he had an illustrious 18-season career with the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos; his remarkable resumé includes two Super Bowl rings, five Most Valuable Player awards, and induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021; in 1999, he established the PeyBack Foundation to fund programs that provide at risk children with leadership and growth opportunities; over the years, it has provided more than $15 million in grants to programs in Colorado, Indiana, Tennessee, and Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Eli Manning, Peyton's younger brother, was twice named MVP of the Super Bowl while guiding the New York Giants to two championships; over the course of 16 seasons, he earned four Pro Bowl nods and threw for more than 57,000 yards and 366 touchdowns; he was named a winner of the 2016 Walter Payton Man of the Year award for his extensive charitable endeavors; these include the Tackle Kids Cancer initiative and the New York March for Babies, as well as the Eli Manning Children's Clinics, which he and his wife, Abby, founded in 2009; and WHEREAS, The members of the Manning family have made a meaningful difference through their philanthropic work, and their myriad achievements on and off the field will continue to inspire football fans for many years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby honor Archie Manning, Peyton Manning, and Eli Manning for their NFL careers and their civic engagement and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
