H.R. No. 365 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Olympic track athlete Fred Kerley received well-deserved recognition with the dedication of a mural in his honor on February 4, 2023, in his hometown of Taylor; and WHEREAS, Painted by local artist Adam Davenport, the mural depicts Mr. Kerley sprinting to victory in the 100-meter dash at the 2022 World Athletics Championships; his gold-medal time of 9.86 seconds was the sixth-fastest ever recorded at that distance; he also gained worldwide attention for his exceptional Olympic performance in 2021, when he collected a silver medal in the 100 meters at the Summer Games in Tokyo; and WHEREAS, Mr. Kerley was a track, football, and basketball standout at Taylor High School; following his graduation, he went on to attend South Plains College and Texas A&M University; he starred as a member of the Aggies' track team, winning the 400-meter title at the 2017 NCAA Division I indoor and outdoor track and field championships; that same year, he set the collegiate record in the event; and WHEREAS, Demonstrating exceptional talent and dedication, Fred Kerley has proven himself one of the top sprinters in the world, and his achievements are a source of great pride and inspiration for the residents of Taylor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate track athlete Fred Kerley on being honored with a mural in his hometown of Taylor and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Kerley as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
