H.R. No. 411 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Rick Powers of Sonora has been named second vice president of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association; and WHEREAS, Established in 1915, the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association is the oldest sheep and goat organization in the United States; it advocates for production agriculture throughout Texas and beyond and seeks to educate the public about the importance of sheep and goats to agriculture and our economy; and WHEREAS, Rick Powers grew up on family ranches in Sutton County and graduated from Sonora High School in 1982; he earned a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University, and he went on to become assistant warehouse manager for Sonora Wool and Mohair; in 1992, he joined Chargeurs USA in Jamestown, South Carolina, as a wool trader, and he was later promoted to trading and topmaking manager; for 16 years, he was commercial manager and director of Lempriere Wool Trading, as well as the commercial director of Global Wool Alliance, a wool combing mill in India; moreover, he is the former owner of Rafter Seven Merinos, Inc. in Nevada; and WHEREAS, Today, Mr. Powers is managing director of American Wool Services in San Angelo, and he jointly manages the Bar 7 Ranch in Sonora, where he raises commercial Merino sheep, Spanish goats, and Angus cattle; he also leases the Sawyer-Davis Ranch in Sonora; highly respected in his profession, he has served on the Let's Grow Fine Wool Consortium and as an advisor for the American Sheep Industry Association's Fine Wool Breed Index Development Team; and WHEREAS, Over the course of his career in the agricultural industry, Rick Powers has gained a wealth of experience that is sure to serve him well as he takes on this challenging new role; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Rick Powers on being named second vice president of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Powers as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
