No. 478 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The life of a respected educator and softball coach drew to a close with the passing of Randall Lynn Kight of Cypress on February 12, 2023, at the age of 74; and WHEREAS, Born in 1948, Randy Kight was the oldest son of James and Betty Kight; he attended high school in Beaumont and went on to graduate from the University of Houston, where he studied journalism and played basketball; and WHEREAS, After earning his master's degree, Mr. Kight embarked on a rewarding career as a teacher and coach that spanned more than 45 years; he worked at Webster Elementary, Spring High School, and Westfield High School, where he served as head coach of the boys' varsity basketball team, before joining the faculty at Cypress Creek High School; there, he took the helm of the girls' varsity softball team, and over the course of his outstanding tenure, he recorded 400 wins as head coach and guided the Cougars to numerous district titles; in 2021, he retired after three decades at the school; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Kight benefited from the love and support of his wife, Kathy Fling, with whom he shared a fulfilling union that spanned 32 years; he took great pride in their five children, Lisa, Kevin, Lyndsey, Lori, and Kristi, and with the passing years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include several beloved grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Randy Kight will remember the way he touched their lives with his kindness, strength of character, and delightful sense of humor, and he leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Randall Lynn Kight and extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Kathy Fling; to his children, Lisa Holub, Kevin Ward, Lyndsey Barfield, Lori Day, and Kristi Godfrey; to his grandchildren; to his siblings, Tami Williams-Sevier, Debbie McNeely, and Larry Kight; and to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Randy Kight.
