 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team of Lubbock Christian
 School brought its season to a triumphant close by winning the 2023
 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools 3A state
 championship; and
 WHEREAS, During their regular schedule, the Eagles dropped
 just two games, and they claimed the District 1-3A title with a
 perfect record against their league rivals; in the playoffs, the
 team recorded blowout victories against Trinity School of Midland,
 Lucas Christian Academy, and Akiba Yavneh Academy of Dallas to
 advance to the state finale; and
 WHEREAS, Lubbock Christian took the floor against
 St. Francis Episcopal School of Houston on February 23 with the
 state crown on the line; in the second quarter, the Eagles outscored
 their opponent 17-10 to take a six-point lead into halftime, but
 repeated rallies by St. Francis in the second half kept the game
 close into the final minutes; making key defensive stops and
 demonstrating tremendous poise from the charity stripe, the Eagles
 sank several clutch free throws in the last minute to triumph by the
 final score of 55-51; the win secured the program's first state
 championship since 2013; and
 WHEREAS, Asher Fleming led the Eagles with 23 points in the
 title game, and Trew Farris and Riley Schroeder joined him on the 3A
 All-Tournament Team; Lubbock Christian also received valuable
 contributions throughout the season from the other members of the
 roster: Hays Hubik, Luke Lee, Welker Horn, Joseph Fernihough,
 Carson Farnsley, Cooper Carthel, Ben Hawley, Cade Larson, Josh
 Rogers, Major Tucker, Will Hawley, and Dai Dai Atkins; these
 talented student-athletes were ably guided by head coach Curt
 Softley and his staff; and
 WHEREAS, Winning a state championship is a daunting task that
 requires countless hours of hard work and an unwavering commitment
 to excellence, and the Lubbock Christian Eagles are a source of
 great pride to their school and their many supporters in the
 community; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Lubbock Christian School boys'
 basketball team on winning the 2023 TAPPS 3A state championship and
 extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
 continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
