No. 533 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, In her work as the founder of the Dyslexia School of Houston, Tammy Spencer has dedicated herself to providing quality service to students with dyslexia; and WHEREAS, Ms. Spencer is a veteran educator and most recently served as an administrator overseeing dyslexia services at the Houston Independent School District; she launched the Dyslexia School in September 2020, at a time when schools were turning to online instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic, which further exacerbated the challenges faced by many students with learning disabilities; initially, she operated the school from a garage apartment at her home; and WHEREAS, The Dyslexia School relocated to a nearby building in West University Place, and today, enrollment has grown to include more than 50 students; in addition to dyslexia screening and assessment, the school offers half-day sessions for students ages 4 to 15 to supplement their learning; the school aims to provide a strong foundation for reading in a nurturing environment, and each student receives an individual education plan that allows them to learn at their own pace; and WHEREAS, Through her leadership, expertise, and commitment to excellence, Tammy Spencer has made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless young Texans with dyslexia, and she is indeed deserving of recognition for her accomplishments in this crucial endeavor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby honor Tammy Spencer for her accomplishments as the founder of the Dyslexia School of Houston and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Spencer as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
